SCHUBERT
Description
Nicknamed the Arpeggione Sonata after the six-stringed, bowed guitar that was (briefly) popular in the early 19th century, Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor is often performed today in its cello-and-piano transcription, as it is here. This program also features two other works by Schubert, written within the final year of the composer’s life: the Allegretto in C Minor, played by pianist Haochen Zhang, and the beloved String Quintet in C Major.
